Stuart
McQuaker chair person of Kintyre Sports Council was present
on Friday 9th April when members of Kintyre
Canoe Club took to the water for their first outdoor
training session of 2010. It was an opportunity to use new
paddles and other equipment purchased using funds obtained
from South Kintyre Sports Council. The club were pleased to
have received a cheque for £300. The funding has allowed
the club to purchase new paddles and air buoyancy for their
kayaks. Club member Sid Gallagher said “ We are very pleased
with the funding award. It means that we are able to get
many more club members on the water safely.”
The club
has been very active over the winter with members enjoying
several kayak training sessions in the pool at Aqualibrium.
There have also been a number of excellent half day and day
trips along the local coast line and one rather windy but
enjoyable surf kayaking afternoon at Machrihanish. The club
is open to anyone over 18. For details contact club
secretary Alix Geyer 01586 553099 or Sid Gallagher 552294.
